Chattanooga State Splits with Columbia State

Chattanooga State basketball played host to Columbia State and split on Friday night. The Lady Tigers (3-2,2-1) ran away with a 98-65 victory, while the Tiger men saw a 5 point second half lead disappear and lost in overtime 87-83.

Jaqualia Wynn led the Tiger women with 18 points, while Beneidra Colbert and Unique Summerour chipped in with 15 and 14 points respectively. Center Sha’Cola Clay tossed in nine. Ashley McKenzie and Kim Manning each had eight in the team effort.

The Tiger men came back from a 5 point halftime deficit to take a six point lead with 2 minutes left in the game, only to see Columbia State make a furious run to tie the score at 73 with 3.8 seconds remaining on the clock. Chattanooga State (3-1, 2-1) inbounded the ball to PJ Meyers who drove the length of the floor and dropped in a 3 point basket just after time expired.

In the loss 7’ Philip Jurick led the Tigers with 18 points followed by Meyers with 17 and three point sharpshooter Alex Wells who had 16. Roy McFadgon rounded out the scoring with 11.

Tiger basketball returns to action Saturday facing Jackson State at home. Games are played in the Health and Fitness Center on the campus of Chattanooga State. Admission is free.

Cleveland State Baseball Drops Doubleheader

COVINGTON, GA. - The first road trip of the season for the Cleveland State baseball team was not a happy one as the Cougars traveled south for a cat fight with the Jaguars of Georgia Perimeter on Saturday afternoon. Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

An Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again

The four remaining members of the Red Bank Commission held a special called meeting on Tuesday and chose Kenneth Welch as the replacement for Vice Mayor Greg Jones, who moved to Alaska.
