Alvin H. Brown, 85, died on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009.

He lived most of his life in the Chattanooga area. In the recent past, he spent his time both in Rossville, Ga., and Fort Myers, Fl.

Alvin was born in Marlow, Tn., to the late Major and Grace Brown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WW II on the USS Leon APA 48. Alvin retired in 1987 after 34 years of service with the Chattanooga City Schools, when he served as Director of the Maintenance and Operations Department. He was also a partner of Tennessee Southern Maintenance. He and his wife, Pat retired in the winter months to Fort Myers.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie Crawford; two brothers, Richard and Leon Brown; and a daughter, Vickie Adamson.

Alvin spent his last few weeks in the Hospice House in Fort Myers saying goodbye to all his friends and family. He will be truly missed by everyone he knew and loved.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy “Pat” Brown of Rossville; two sons, Ronnie (Linda) Brown, of Chattanooga and Gary Brown of Decatur, Tn.; two stepsons, Steve (Yulonda) Taylor of Rossville, and Greg Taylor of Texas; a sister, Fay Lane of Clinton, Tn.; a special nephew, Greg Duncan of Chattanooga; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephew.

A memorial service will be announced.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.


Garrett, Nancy Martin

Nancy Martin Garrett, 73, died on February 9, 2012.   Survivors include her daughter, Felicia Harrisonl; sons, Anthony, Jeff and Larry; siblings, Edward Martin and Shirley Martin; other relatives and friends.   Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 16, in the funeral home chapel. Albert C. Kiser, 102, of Chattanooga, died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, surrounded by family.   He was born on Dec. 27, 1909, in Somerset, Ky. to the late Albert and Ethel Kiser.   He retired from TVA after 35 years, was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church for 63 years and member of the Fellowship Class. Kinser, Waldo Oran (Chatsworth)

Waldo Oran Kinser, 58, of Chatsworth, Ga., died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his residence. Waldo was born May 12, 1953 in Ellijay, Ga., a son of the late Wilbur Oran and Texxie Dotson Kinser; and was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Kinser; and sister, Debbie Kinser. Man Tells Police He Just Murdered His Wife

A Chattanooga man told police Monday night that he had just murdered his wife.  Police said Robert Lee Hardnett, 50. showed up at the County Jail to turn himself in at 8:40 p.m. He said his wife's body could be found at his place of employment, Power Supply Company, 1907 Daisy St.   Officers responded to that address and found the body of 34-year-old Elizabeth ... Red Bank Commissioners Choose Kenneth Welch To Replace Greg Jones; Jeno Won't Run Again
