Mary Alma Hixson Hixon, 85, a lifelong resident of the Hixson community, died on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew W. and Sallie H. Hixson; and a sister, Elsie Lorene Hixson.
She practiced her Christian faith through the love and care she gave to others throughout her lifetime. Until the decline in her health, she was a regular Sunday school attendee for many years at the nearby Middle Valley Church of God. During her youth, she attended the Baptist Church services held at the old Ganns School in Middle Valley and later Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Thomas E. Hixon; and daughter, Linda K. Hixon, both of Hixson; sister, Velma Hixson Masiers, of Signal Mountain; several nieces and nephews, and a number of close cousins and longtime friends, all of whom will greatly miss her.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23, in Hixson Cemetery with the Rev. Mitch McClure officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chattanooga. The family acknowledges with appreciation the loving care given to Alma and her family by the staff of Hospice during the final weeks of her life.
