Hearing on the news last night that La-Z-Boy is relocating part of
their operations to Mexico because of cheaper labor and looser labor
laws upset me. I don’t have a family member employed by La-Z-Boy, but
I am sure a lot of folks do. This is just another slap in the face by
a company that has been supported by Americans, and now those same
Americans will suffer due to losing their job. When are we going to
stand up for our fellow Americans and stop buying items made in other
countries because of cheaper labor, etc?
About 23 years ago the
company my husband worked for moved its operation to Chili for the
same reasons. I for one will not buy a La-Z-Boy chair, and before
anyone can say anything I realize there are still jobs supplied by
La-Z-Boy, but the point is they no longer care to support the American
workers that have made La-Z-Boy what they are today. Thanks for
letting me blow off steam.

La-Z-Boy still employs over 1000 people. If we discontinue patronizing a local manufacturer, then we will most assuredly see products made overseas or in Mexico. Also, don't forget that a lot of local companies
generates revenue from La-Z-Boy.
Have you been to any of the local furniture stores lately, most of the
items are made in countries other than America. So maybe you can
overlook what you read in our local paper and on your next sofa or
chair, you will keep La-Z-Boy in mind.

If you quit buying things not made in the U.S., you are not going to
have anything. We are global. Get with the program. We also export things to other countries.

The thing you have to realize is our government has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world and our President has made profits a dirty word, when in reality every company has to make a healthy profit to stay in business. People are under this misconception that companies exist to provide jobs, when in reality
they exist because people risk their money to invest in a business so
that they can grow their investment. Jobs are just a by product of the
whole endeavor.
The bottom line is, stockholders what to see a return and healthy profits or the stock value and company goes away, and no one has a job. If a company can't compete with other companies making products with cheaper labor, taxes, and such then they simply will go out of business.
One prime reason our economy is in the tank is we still don't know
how high corporate taxes are going to be raised to pay for the foolish
spending in Washington, and we don't know what regulatory changes are
coming down the pike. But we do know that Obama and company want
control of everything, like the financial industry, auto industry,
pharmaceuticals and medical care; only government will work to them.
Well, investors don't invest when the risks are unknown, and the economy cannot recover without growth of the private sector and especially small businesses.

I think that you have every right to express disappointment about what
La-Z-Boy is doing.
I think we should be calling them Gree-D-Boy now that they are willing to spend the kind of money it takes to move a company from the
U.S. to Mexico in the first place. They could be using that money to
bolster their companies here in the U.S. I will back you, Cheryl, in
agreeing that I will never buy from La-Z-Boy either. If they just opened
a company there but left the state- side companies active, I would have
no problems. And if they start losing people through normal attrition
and not hiring others to take their place, that I could understand. But
to open a factory in Mexico and close one here in the US to save
money? Not right at all. Yes, we should be calling them Gree-D-Boy from
now on.
Oh, and just for the record, I have bought from them in the past, but never again.
