Teachers from four local schools received Earning for Learning grants from the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce Red Bank Council.
In October, teachers from Red Bank schools were encouraged to submit lesson proposals, and the Council chose five projects to fund. These grants of $500 are made possible by proceeds from the Red Bank Jubilee, which is sponsored by the Red Bank Council and the City of Red Bank.
Teachers and projects recognized at the luncheon include: Riquel Burton from Dawn School with “My Place in this World,” which will raise awareness of global geography; Sona Patel from Red Bank Elementary with “Family Reading Every Day (FRED),” which will encourage students to read with their families; Beth Morgan from Red Bank Middle School with “Loose in the Lab,” where students will experience hands on activities related to life, earth, and physical science; Lu Shan Webb from Red Bank High School with “Sustainable Urban Rooftop Agriculture,” which will educate students about the importance of sustainable agriculture in order to support an exponentially growing human population and Greg Cantrell from Red Bank High School with “The Blue and White Newspaper,” which is written entirely by the students and is mailed out to 850 families whose students attend Red Bank High School.
The Red Bank Council will not hold a meeting in December, but will reconvene on Jan. 19 at noon in the Red Bank Community Center off Morrison Springs Road. Members and non-members are welcome to attend the luncheon meeting.
