The White Sox issued a news release on Wednesday stating Jones has agreed to a one-year deal with Chicago. The 10-time Gold Glove center fielder will receive a $500,000 base salary for 2010 and can receive up to an additional $1 million in performance bonuses.
Jones batted .214 with 17 homers and 43 RBIs in 82 games with the Rangers in 2009 -- when he had Vizquel as a teammate. The 32-year-old right-handed hitter made 53 starts as a designated hitter, 12 in left field, five in right field and four at first base.
For his 14-year career, Jones -- a five-time All-Star -- is a .257 hitter with 388 home runs.
"This is an opportunity to add a power bat to the roster while improving our outfield depth," White Sox general manager Ken Williams said in a statement. "With the addition of Andruw, Mark Kotsay and Omar Vizquel, we feel our bench is taking shape to be a strong asset heading into the 2010 season."
The White Sox 40-man roster is now at 39.
