Orange Grove Center has received a $9,000 grant from The UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The grant will be used to fund the employee wellness program, to encourage and motivate staff to make dietary, health and lifestyle changes.
Through the UPS grant, healthy incentives will be offered to some 750 staff members of Orange Grove beginning Jan. 1, 2010, through Dec. 31, 2010. Staff may earn up to a maximum of 100 points annually in the areas of well visit exams, weight management, preventative health, and exercise. This includes nutrition classes, Lunch and Learn sessions, smoking cessation, annual medical exams, dental and eye exams, cancer screenings, health risk assessments, and exercise components, such as community health walks and classes at fitness centers.
“Orange Grove is most honored by this grant. UPS employees have demonstrated their support of services to individuals with intellectual disabilities through united volunteer efforts which have helped to provide overall improvements to our facilities,” said Kyle Hauth, executive director of Orange Grove Center. “Now UPS adds to their labor of love with a most generous contribution. We vow to use this donation in a manner befitting the hard working men and women of UPS."
Established in 1951 and based in Atlanta, The UPS Foundation identifies specific areas where its backing clearly impacts social issues. In support of this strategic approach, The UPS Foundation has identified the following focus areas for giving: non-profit effectiveness, economic and global literacy, encouraging diversity, community safety and environmental sustainability.
In 2008, The UPS Foundation distributed $46.9 million worldwide through grants that benefit organizations or programs, such as the Orange Grove Center Wellness Program, and provide support for building stronger communities.
“The UPS Foundation is committed to funding impactful programs that make a meaningful difference in our communities - so we are proud to support Orange Grove Center's efforts to implement their wellness program,” said Ken Sternad, president of The UPS Foundation.
