53-Year-Old Moccasin Bend Hospital Patient Dies After Tasing

Incident Happened Tuesday At Erlanger Hospital

Chattanooga Police Major Crimes detectives said a 53-year-old Moccasin Bend Hospital patient died shortly after he became combative after being taken to Erlanger Hospital and was tased.

The initial investigation reveals that Edward Buckner was a patient at Moccasin Bend for unknown reasons, but had developed dehydration due to diabetes and was transferred to Erlanger Tuesday. He was treated for his medical problems and was discharged from Erlanger sometime around noon.

Moccasin Bend sent a van and personnel for transport back to their facility. Mr. Buckner was assisted to the van by medical personnel and Moccasin Bend personnel when he became combative and resistant. He refused to get into the van. At this point Erlanger Police officers were summoned to help and Mr. Buckner became involved in an altercation with the Erlanger officers and Hamilton County Corrections Officers who were on the scene on a separate transport.

Mr. Buckner was tazed by the officers. He was then placed in the van and taken back to Moccasin Bend. When the van arrived at the facility Mr. Buckner was found to be unresponsive. He was transported back to Erlanger by EMS where he was pronounced dead.
