After getting the donation of a facility in Highland Park from Life Care Center, County Mayor Claude Ramsey said the county will tear down the Mayfield Annex.
He said the county had been facing spending over $1 million to fix up the annex, which is the old Elks Building at the corner of Seventh and Walnut streets.
Mr. Ramsey said employees will be moved from the Mayfield Annex, which was named for former County Council member Jack Mayfield.
He said the county is studying which employees will be shifted to the newly acquired building.
Mr. Ramsey said the county will likely shift whole departments - possibly finance or emergency management.
He said the county will pay about $70,000 in taxes on the former nursing home building and some of that is the city's water quality fee.
Some county offices are in the County Courthouse and others are in the Newell Towers next to the Mayfield Annex and the MLK Building on Oak Street.
County Commissioner Warren Mackey noted that the county will not have to worry about elevator problems in the Life Care building since it is one story.
