Building on the success of an award-winning website, Baylor School launched a comprehensive social media strategy that includes a Facebook fan page that already boasts more than 1,200 fans and an alumni page that reaches more than 700 friends.
The fan page is the latest addition to a social media menu that includes a You Tube channel, daily Twitter feeds, a blog covering the various facets of Baylor, and an online alumni “Raider ReConnect” community built to bolster the alumni data base while providing exclusive content in a password protected area of the school’s website.
Baylor was among the first independent schools in the nation to offer podcasts and last spring maximized access to information through web-enabled mobile phones.
“These initiatives are a response to the changing nature of how people consume and share online news,” said Bernard Fertal, Baylor’s webmaster and director of interactive media. “Our website continues to serve as a primary marketing and communication source, but web 2.0 venues allow us to interact with our audience while meeting their demand for easy and immediate access to information.”
