A work session will be held on the topic of temporary signs and code enforcement in Red Bank, City Manager Chris Dorsey said.
Some business owners brought complaints to the Red Bank Commission on Tuesday about newly stepped up sign enforcement.
The commission voted to impose a 60-day moratorium on the sign enforcement while both sides determine if any changes are needed to the sign ordinance.
Mr. Dorsey said he had stepped up enforcement of city codes concerning temporary signs as part of an effort to make the city more attractive.
He said the city code says that the temporary signs are allowed for a period of 15-30 days. Permits can be issued multiple times during the year, but the signs can only be displayed for a total of 105 days during the year. The permit each time is $10.
Mr. Dorsey said many of the temporary signs had started popping up recently.
The city hired a codes officer about two years ago and he has started enforcing the various codes in the neighborhood, Mr. Dorsey said.
He stated, "We have been working to clean up our city and also make it more appealing to residents and business alike.
"The work session will hopefully allow us to work toward some sort of compromise which will help all parties involved."
