Nationally-ranked Kent State won six matches, including a pin by No. 9 Dustin Kilgore at 184, and defeated Tennessee at Chattanooga, 22-15, in a college wrestling match Saturday at Va. Tech.
The Mocs (0-1) face No. 21 Va. Tech (0-1) at 5 p.m. No. 22 Kent State (2-0) defeated the Hokies, 20-18, earlier in the afternoon.
UTC winners were four former Tennessee state prep champs, Demetrius Johnson (125), Cody Cleveland (141), Brandon Wright (165) and true freshman Jake Young (174).
No. 8 Cleveland earned a fall, while the other three Mocs posted regular decisions.
The Mocs held its largest lead at 15-10 after seven matches as Young posted his first victory as a collegian.
But KSU scored 12 straight points with a fall at 184 to take the lead for good at 16-15 and then added a decision at 197 (19-15) and an overtime triumph at 285.
Notes: Win the Close Ones … KSU won three matches today by two points or less … KSU defeated the Mocs, 32-10, last season.
