UTC's Wade-Fray Named Player Of the Week

Chattanooga senior Jenaya Wade-Fray was selected the Southern Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week the league office announced Tuesday.

The Madison, Ala., guard averaged 22.5 points and five rebounds in the Lady Mocs’ two victories last week.

In Chattanooga’s 89-71 SoCon win against Wofford, Wade-Fray led the Lady Mocs with 18 points and nabbed a career-high five steals. She also added two assists and was 3-of-6 from the three-point line. It was the Lady Mocs’ 24th-consecutive victory over the Terriers.

Against Clemson, Wade Fray scored a career-best 27 points and grabbed six rebounds. She went 5-of-11 from the three-point line, matching her season high, and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. The Lady Mocs won 69-56.

Wade-Fray jumped from 12th to fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 13 points per contest. She also ranks sixth in three-pointers made with two per game, and her 41.7 percent from behind the arc puts her at seventh.

After reaching the 1,000 career points plateau last week, she currently sits at 20th on the Chattanooga all-time scoring charts with 1,054 points. Her 173 career three-pointers are good for third in school history.

The Lady Mocs travel to Elon Thursday before visiting UNC Greensboro on Saturday.

Other top performers included Davidson’s Sophia Aleksandravicius, Elon’s Urysla Cotton, Georgia Southern’s Samantha Williams, UNC Greensboro’s Lakiah Hyson and Western Carolina’s Emily Clarke.

Lady Mocs Tennis Team Remains Undefeated

MURFREESBORO. --- UTC senior Chris Berry (Murfreesboro) took first in the men’s 3000 meter run at the Valentine Invitational at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee. Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
