Time Change for Weekend Closure On Road Up Signal Mountain

Crews Hope To Finish Repair Work This Weekend

Thursday, December 17, 2009

In anticipation of possible increased traffic resulting from the 2009 Division I Football National Championship on Friday, TDOT will push back the weekend total closure of U.S. 127 on Signal Mountain to midnight Friday evening instead of the originally-scheduled 9 p.m.

One lane of the roadway will be open until this time and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control.

After midnight on Friday, the roadway will be totally closed until Monday at 6 a.m.

Crews hope to complete the repair work and totally reopen the roadway by this time. If repairs are not completed this weekend, the roadway will again be reopened to one-lane traffic on Monday morning while crews continue work around the clock to repair the damage to the roadway.

The time for tonight's total closure has not changed. The roadway will be closed to all traffic beginning at 9 p.m. and reopen to one lane by 6 a.m. tomorrow morning.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation awarded an emergency repair contract to Wright Brothers Construction of Charleston, Tn., on Dec. 10.

Heavy rains caused a portion of U.S. 127 to collapse on Wednesday, Dec. 9. The contractor has remained on site and continues to work 24 hours a day seven days a week until repairs are complete.
