I am of the opinion that AARP has kicked us old folks to the curb by throwing their support for the health care bill that is being proposed.
The part of this bill that disturbs me the most is the proposed cuts to home health care and hospice. Home health care is vital to many senior citizens who do not drive and are unable to get to a doctor's office. Home health care nurses follow up on a patient after they are discharged from a hospital shortening the hospital stay.
Home health care is so vital to patients in rural areas, to cut this service would be catastrophic in my opinion.
On hospice, for anyone who has had a loved one who is dying and does not want to end their life in a hospital, this service is so great. I recently used the services of hospice when my husband was dying of cancer, and I must say that the service was invaluable. The nurse saw to it that my husband had his pain medicines, she kept track of his vitals and gave me tremendous support.
Shame on AARP for supporting this bill - one that will hurt the very senior citizens that they are supposed to represent.

I thought it was especially neat how AARP made such a huge public endorsement of the Democrats' health care reform legislation, without consulting us AARP members. I do not recall receiving anything from AARP soliciting my views, but sure enough, I am now a member of an organization which is on record as supporting this bill, whether I like it or not. Thanks, AARP.

I join Ms. Solomon and many other AARP members in questioning the politics of this origination. From what I have read, with their connections with the current administration, they may be making a wise business decision, however, I am proud that I did not renew my membership in AARP and switched my insurance to another provider.
