A burglary suspect was injured while trying to escape pursuing officers in East Ridge early Monday afternoon.
At approximately 1:25 p.m., East Ridge Police responded to 3218 Gleason Dr., Apt. 27, on an attempted burglary call. Officers located the suspect attempting to hide in the rear seat of a vehicle.
Police made contact with the suspect and a brief struggle ensued. During the course of the struggle officers made an unsuccessful attempt to taze the suspect. He then fled on foot into a wooded area. The foot chase eventually led to Gleason Drive, where the suspect struck a passing vehicle while attempting to cross the street.
He was transported by EMS to Erlanger Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
He has been identified as Arterious F. Harris, 18, of Chattanooga.
Upon his release from the hospital he will be charged with attempted aggravated burglary, possession of burglary tools and evading arrest.
Police said Harris is also a suspect in several other burglaries in the area and more charges are expected to be filed.
