The oldest daughter of Senator Bob Corker is sore but okay after a frightening carjacking incident in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night.

Senator Corker was in a restaurant about two minutes away when he received a cell phone call from daughter, Julia, saying she had just been jerked from her Chevy Tahoe and shoved to the pavement near the Verizon Center.

Senator Corker rushed to the scene, according to Corker Chief of Staff Todd Womack of Chattanooga, who was with him at dinner.

Police were able to use the vehicle's Onstar GPS system to locate it. Two suspects were taken into custody in Maryland.

Mr. Womack said Senator Corker noted he had been considering canceling his Onstar subscription, but had decided to continue it.

Mr. Womack said the family is grateful that Ms. Corker was not seriously hurt. "We know it could have been much worse," he said.

He praised the DC Police as well as the FBI for tracking down the suspects within an hour.

Mr. Womack said Ms. Corker was on her way to the family apartment and was about a block and a half away when she stopped at an intersection. A man came up and tapped on the window, and she rolled down the window to see if he needed help.

At that time, a second man forced his way into the vehicle.

Ms. Corker, 22, was dragged by the neck from the SUV, then the carjackers sped away.

Senator Corker accompanied his daughter later in the evening as she made a positive identification of the suspects.

Senator Corker said Thursday morning, "She's done remarkably well. She's sore and it's obviously shaken her up, and she's still dealing with police officials here from the area, but you know, Elizabeth and I both are just glad that she's safe.

"It happened, you know, just half a block from our apartment in the Penn Quarter area which is about nine blocks from the Capitol, an area, you know, it's perceived to be a very safe and well-traveled area. But obviously last night she was very shaken up, but she's doing just fine. I very much appreciate people from around the state - and really around the country - all the calls that have come in. She's a brave young woman, and she handled herself well.

"The police were incredible. You know we were in an area that's under the D.C. Metro jurisdiction, but the Capitol police also came, the FBI became involved and then the local police in Maryland were incredible, too. All of them were very, very professional. They found the suspects very, very quickly. Julia and I went over late last night, and she identified them."
