Residents who live near a Sale Creek shooting range have filed suit in Chancery Court, alleging that their safety is endangered.
The suit was filed against operator Ronnie Dodd, Hamilton County and members of the County Board of Zoning Appeals.
Mr. Dodd, former Red Bank police chief, earlier filed suit against the county, saying it was trying to overturn a permit given him by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
The County Commission heard from the citizens at several meetings and asked the Board of Zoning Appeals to reconsider.
The new lawsuit says the operation of the shooting range is not within the bounds of the permit.
It says it is not "a low-intensity outdoor range" but that Mr. Dodd "is permitting paying customers to fire semi-automatic weapons, large handguns, shotguns, tactical carbine weapons and all manner of firearms" on the property on Leggett Road.
The suit was filed by Eric Oliver and James Hurst.
Plaintiffs are Timothy Grace, Renee Grace, Arthur Ross, Kenneth Boles, Karen Boles, Michael King, David Stecker and Carl Lindkvist.
