The bustling Southside will get a full-service grocery as well as a new 58,000-square-foot mixed-use development at Main and Market.

Developers Eric Cummings and Gavin Thomas made the announcements during the Mainx24 festival on Saturday morning.

Sam Turner, who has 30 years in the grocery business and formerly owned The Favorite Markets, will operate Enzo's Main Street Grocery in 12,000 square feet at the former Hill's Florist.

The site is at Main and Long streets next to Battle Elementary School.

The grocery will include a wine shop, a butcher shop and cafe.

It is set to open next summer.

The Mission on Main will be at the site of the old Union Gospel Mission.

Mr. Cummings said an existing brick building at the site will be taken down, but parts of it will be used in the new development.

The project will include 40 apartments above retail space. There will be an underground parking area.

Mr. Cummings said the design by Elemi Architects is a blend of the new and the old - in keeping with the developing Southside.

It will feature a tower at the corner that will be lit at night. It will be a LEED-certified building and feature a 6,000-square-foot green roof.

The Mission on Main will include 58,000 square feet of space.

The developers, whose firm is Paper Street Associates, bought the property from the RiverCity Company, which acquired it from the Union Gospel Mission.

Mr. Cummings and Mr. Thomas both live nearby the two new developments.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... A Good School Takes Involvement - And Response

As I have read the articles concerning Normal Park School I can’t keep from thinking when our children started to school in the 1960‘s. The two elementary schools in the city that were considered tops were Barger and Woodmore. We did not live in the zone for either school so we looked for a house to buy that was zoned for Woodmore.   We found ... (click for more)
