The National Weather Service on Wednesday night canceled a flood warning that had been issued along South Chickamauga Creek. However, later Wednesday the warning was back on.
The creek was at 17.3 feet at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, but had only risen another inch by 8:15 p.m., the NWS initially said. NWS officials said it had crested and would begin to fall.
However, later it said the creek had reached 18 feet by 5:15 a.m. and was expected to be above flood stage by 7 a.m. It was predicted to be at 18.2 feet by 1 p.m.
The creek reaches flood stage at 18 feet.
The flood warning for the South Chickamauga Creek has been extended until Friday morning.
At 5:15 a.m. Thursday the stage was at 18.0 feet with minor flooding in the forecast.
The weather service predicted that the river would rise above flood stage Thursday morning and crest near 18.2 feet around 1 p.m. The river is expected to fall below flood stage Friday morning.
