Little Sparks Fun Bonfire Continues The Fight Against Cabin Fever

Tuesday, March 10, 2009 - by Michelle Whitaker

The late-winter itch to get outdoors has hit many, but for those not sure it’s warm enough, take heart. This Saturday, the Little Sparks Fun Bonfire brings the best of the camping experience alive at Maple Creek Farm – without the trouble of a tent.

“All you need is a lawn chair. The fires are going to be huge,” said Keven McCammon, co-owner of Maple Creek with wife Kitty. “We are going to have two very large main fires, and several smaller fires around. Lots of concessions, and we’re all set for everyone to be able to hear Doug’s stories. We’re excited and fortunate he’s coming.”

Doug is Doug Elliot, national champion storyteller, author, musician and Rutherford County native. A registered Traditional Artist of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area, his tales have been heard all over the country. Along with Mr. Elliot’s stories, crowds will enjoy foods friendly to everyone – including s’mores, of course.

As fundraiser for a Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills area Community Pet Center, the proceeds for this evening under the stars go for a good cause. So come for the bonfire – but stay for the weekend. As part of the Ignite the Night Bonfire series, special room rates and packages are available for bonfire attendees.

To help support the series, hats, t-shirts, stadium blankets and other specialty items bearing the Ignite the Night logo will be available for sale. Cash or Check only.

Below are the details for the Little Sparks Fun (and for the two remaining bonfires). For directions or more information, visit ignitethenightseries.com or contact Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Foothills at 800 849-5998 or event organizers at 828 286-8069.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance.
