This little restaurant has been open for a while, but we recently made our first visit to Machu-Picchu at 9413 Apison Pike in the Ooltewah/Collegedale area.
We were informed that the menu is Peruvian and the specialty is rotisserie chicken. If you only speak/read English, you’ll have to read the descriptions to know about each dish.
For our appetizer we chose the Tamal Peruano De Pollo (Chicken Tamale) for $4.75 to share. While we enjoyed it, there only seemed to be a very small piece of chicken right in the center, so most of it was breading.
Machu Picchu has a LOT of items to choose from, so it wasn’t easy, but I knew I wanted to try the specialty. Finally both of us decided on Combo #1 for $7.50 – ½ Rotisserie Chicken with rice, beans, sweet plantains and a drink. I could have ordered the ¼ chicken for $6, but knew with the ½ I would have another meal to take home.
The meal was served with yellow rice with mixed vegetables (corn, peas, etc.), and the beans were pintos. I have to say the rice was so very moist, I really enjoyed it. You know how I am about getting dry rice! I would definitely order that rice again. They also have white rice and black beans if you prefer.
The chicken was juicy and delicious. I had enough of everything to have an entire meal the next day.
I thought the plantains should have been a bit more crisp, but that’s just a personal preference.
Other items on the Machu Picchu menu include pastas such as Tallarin Verde (spaghetti noodles covered in a cream of spinach basil, peanuts and cheese sauce), meatball spaghetti, and Milanesa de Pollo Machupichu (chicken breast with fries and salad). Under the fish section you will find Ceviche de Pescado (fresh fish marinated in lime juice with onion, served with corn, yucca and sweet potato) and Pescado a Lo Pobre (fish topped with fried eggs, sweet plantains and served with fries, rice and beans.
Entree prices range from$6 for the combo #2, ¼ rotisserie chicken to two dishes at $11.50.
We definitely enjoyed the food and I especially enjoyed that rice! There is a vegetarian menu, as well as desserts featuring Tres Leches, Flancocho, Chocolate Cake and Plain Cake priced from $2 to $3.50.
Hours for Machu Picchu are Monday through Thursday 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM; Friday until 7:00 PM; Saturday 8:00 PM until 12:00 AM; and Sunday 12:00 PM until 9:00 PM. (That is not a typo on the opening time for Saturday.)
