No one was home and no injuries were reported in connection with a house fire at 2314 Brookwood Dr. on Friday afternoon.
A neighbor was reportedly one of the first individuals to notice smoke coming from the two-story house.
Chattanooga firefighters were notified of the fire just before 1 p.m. and they responded to the scene with four fire companies.
Battalion Chief Mike Knox said the fire appears to have started in the attached garage on the first floor and then extended into a bedroom above. The firefighters quickly attacked the blaze in the garage from the outside, and also made an interior attack on the fire in the bedroom.
Chief Knox said the firefighters got the blaze under control in five minutes, containing the fire damage to the garage and bedroom above. The rest of the house was saved, except for some smoke damage. The loss was estimated at $30,000.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the two adults and three children who lived there.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
