Danna Thorne Is Principal At Birchwood, Todd Jackson At Sequoyah

Superintendent Dr. Jim Scales announced new principals at Birchwood Elementary and Sequoyah High School for next school year.

Effective July 1, Ms. Danna Thorne will be the new principal at Birchwood Elementary. Ms. Thorne, currently the assistant principal at Snow Hill Elementary, replaces Ms. Julie Legg, who was recently promoted to director of elementary literacy.

J. Todd Jackson will be principal at Sequoyah High School beginning July 1. Mr. Jackson, assistant principal at the school, will replace Mr. Steve Holmes who is retiring.

“Ms. Thorne and Mr. Jackson are dedicated to helping students succeed and focused on instruction,” Dr. Scales said. “I know they will work with their communities to continue the traditions of excellence and academic achievement at Birchwood and Sequoyah.”

Ms. Thorne began her career in education in Wichita, Kans. Between 2000 and 2006 she was a teacher, intervention coordinator, administrative intern, instructional coach and intensive support teaching specialist in Wichita Public Schools. She moved to Hamilton County in 2008 as assistant principal at Snow Hill Elementary. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Wichita State University along with a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Arts in School Leadership from Friends University in Kansas.

Mr. Jackson began his career in education as a football coach at Soddy Daisy High School and a career and technical and science teacher at Sequoyah High School in 1989. He was promoted to Assistant Principal at Sequoyah in 2005. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and a Masters of Education from Middle Tennessee State University.

Pickup Truck Crosses To Wrong Side Of Hixson Pike: Other Driver Killed

A pickup truck went across Hixson Pike into the opposing lane of traffic on Saturday afternoon, then struck another vehicle. The driver of that car was killed. Signs Vandalized At Cummings Cove As Battle With OHV Owners Continues

Two large advertising signs at the Cummings Cove development in Lookout Valley were vandalized Friday. One sign was spray painted with an expletive and another had the word "Aetna" in large letters.  There has been a long-running dispute between owners of Cummings Cove and those who enjoy going up the old Aetna Mountain Road to ride off-highway vehicles.
