Three Erlanger Health System nurse managers have been selected to attend the Tennessee Nurse Manager Leadership Institute in Franklin, Tenn., a three-day session focusing on skills that will improve unit performance, incorporate leadership techniques in every day situations and enhance patient care.
Out of 85 applicants across the state, only 40 nurse managers were chosen to attend the institute. The selection process included an application form, essays submitted by the nominees and a letter of recommendation from the chief nursing officer or direct supervisor. Erlanger was the only hospital in the state to have three representatives selected to attend.
Rose Lobach is the Nurse Manager of inpatient oncology and a 24-year veteran of Erlanger, previously serving in the Emergency Department and as House Supervisor. Rose teaches Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Trauma Nursing Core Curriculum. She is a Tactical Nurse on the Chattanooga S.W.A.T. Team and a Staff RN for a federal medical response team, TN-1 DMAT. Rose also serves as the School Nurse for Berean Academy in Hixson, Tennessee. She is a 1984 graduate of Erlanger's School of Nursing, with a Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from St. Francis University.
Natalie Montgomery is currently the SICU Nurse Manager and has 16 years of experience at Erlanger starting as a graduate nurse in the SICU. She serves as chair of the SICU CUSP team/unit council and is actively pursuing “Beacon Certification” for her unit. Natalie has national certification as a critical care nurse and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau. She is currently the president of the Chattanooga Scenic City Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nursing and actively working on her Masters of Science in Nursing through the University of St. Francis.
Karen Romine is the Nurse Manager of Central Telemetry, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Echo Lab, Vascular Lab, and the Neurodiagnostic (EEG) Lab. She has worked at Erlanger for 14 years beginning her career as a patient transporter. Karen entered the ranks of nursing leadership in 2000 as nurse manager of the Heart Failure Management and Medical Ambulatory Care Units. She has an AD in Nursing from Chattanooga State, a BS in Business Administration from UT Knoxville, and is in pursuit of her Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of St. Francis.
All nurse managers will have the opportunity to network with peers and other nursing leaders from Tennessee on various topics relevant to effectively and efficiently functioning as a visionary nursing leader in the 21st century.
