Wayne and I went for breakfast at a new restaurant – New York Diner at 5665 Brainerd Road.

They have a huge menu featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner items, along with Mexican and Greek selections.

The choices for breakfast are many, including eggs, Belgian waffles, omelets, biscuits, gravy, pancakes and sandwiches. I will say that our server wasn’t very knowledgeable regarding the menu. I ordered two eggs with sausage ($5.45) and asked the server what came with it and she just looked at me. I said, “Do grits or potatoes or maybe toast come with it” and she said “no, but you can buy a side”. So I said I would just take it the way it is served, even though I was thinking $5.45 was a bit high for two eggs with sausage and nothing else.

When my plate arrived, there was a huge mound of fresh home-style potatoes. When the server came back I mentioned that this is what I was asking so she tells me, “another lady ordered the same thing and she didn’t get anything with hers”. Who knows, maybe she didn’t want anything. Actually I have now found that their breakfasts come with a choice of potatoes or grits, toast and a choice of coffee or a small juice. I wasn’t given the drink option either.

My eggs were a perfect sunny side up (I’ve given up on soft scrambled in a restaurant) and the potatoes were quite good, some a bit crisp, and some soft and tender, a perfect combination.

While we were waiting, someone brought us a plate of fresh, homemade bread with butter. When our breakfast was served, the toast was made from the homemade bread, which was delicious.

Wayne order the New York Omelet ($7.45) made with sausage, bacon, ham, onions, peppers, and Monterey Jack cheese, and served with the home-style potatoes.

The New York Diner has a multitude of salads, soups. All sandwiches are served with your choice of potato salad, fries, home fries, Texas fries or rice and black beans, with the soup of the day.

With so many choices, and the fact that they have a good breakfast, I hope this place succeeds since the last few places haven’t lasted very long. We need a few good breakfast places! We look forward to trying out their wings.

A Kids menu is offered for $3.95 featuring more than the standard chicken nuggets (roast beef or turkey dinner, fried filet of flounder, spaghetti and several others).

I’m pretty sure we will go back for another visit.

New York Diner is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sunday from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Known primarily for ice cream, Dubs now serves fantastic food and is open all year long. In October, Red Bank resident, Jordan Miller purchased Dubs Place. He gave the restaurant a complete face lift before officially opening on Nov. 8. The retro fifties theme ... (click for more)

Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke. And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance.
