Bairds Hired As Coaches At Warren County High School

Erick and Amy Baird have been hired as coaches at Warren County High School in McMinnville, Tenn.

Erick Baird was the boys track and field coach at Signal Mountain High School and this past school year and also served as assistant boys basketball coach at Hixson High.

"I really enjoyed both Signal Mountain and Hixson, but this is a great opportunity for me and my wife,'' Erick Baird said.

Erick will be the head girls basketball coach at Warren County and Amy will be the head cross country coach and an assistant in track and field.

Baird participated in cross country and track and field at Bradley Central High School before graduating in 1993. He has a bachelors and masters degree from UTC.

For two years, Baird coached boys basketball, track and cross country at Escambia High School in Florida. He was also the head boys basketball coach at Sequoyah High School in Madisonville, Tenn.

ROBERSON LEAVING SEQUATCHIE BASEBALL: Shane Roberson has resigned as baseball coach at Sequatchie County after one season with the Indians.

A former player for Baylor, Roberson led Sequatchie County to a 17-17 record. It was a 10-win improvement from the year before.

Roberson plans to pursue other opportunities he hopes will include coaching.

DAVID HELTON TO SALE CREEK: Former Boyd-Buchanan High School boys basketball coach David Helton has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Sale Creek High School.

Lady Mocs Tennis Remains Unbeaten

The UTC women's tennis team posted a 5-2 win over previously undefeated Evansville on Saturday.  The Lady Mocs won the doubles point and four of six singles matches to improve to 3-0 on the season. Wesleyan Rallies In 2nd Half To Beat Lady Scots

MACON, Ga. --Lindsay Haggerty scored 29 points to lead the Wesleyan Pioneers to a 54-42 win over the Covenant Lady Scots on Saturday afternoon in Macon, Ga. The Lady Scots won the previous meeting of the two teams 42-38 back in January. Covenant falls to 5-16 overall and 4-9 in conference play. Wesleyan improves to 7-11 and 5-10 in league play. Prosecutors Asking Maximum Sentence For "Evil" Mother Of Jesse Mathews

Prosecutors are asking that the mother of the man charged with killing Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin be given the maximum possible sentence, calling Kathleen Mathews an evil manipulator who encouraged Jesse Mathews' criminal endeavors. Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
