CARTA unveiled two new clean-burning hybrid buses at a board meeting Thursday.
The buses will go into service on regular CARTA transit routes in about three weeks, board member Sonny Moore said.
The buses are equipped with large batteries, but also run on diesel.
Mr. Moore said CARTA will eventually have 13 buses in its fleet, replacing current diesel buses that often emit black smoke.
Also, the CARTA board approved a new public parking deck near the Bluff View Art District.
It will include about 80 spaces and be part of the new Walnut Commons apartment complex. It is due to start construction this summer.
The site is across Riverfront Parkway
from the Hunter Museum at Walnut Street and Lookout Street.
The complex is also to include a new building for the Little Miss Mag day nursery.
The parking portion will cost $1.5 million. CARTA will pay the debt using parking revenues and other sources.
