Everyone has been adversely touched by the current economy in some way, and the Audubon Acres wildlife sanctuary is no exception. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Audubon Acres needs the community’s helping hands to give it a makeover that will preserve it for years to come.
The University of Phoenix – Chattanooga campus and Keep Scenic Cities Beautiful have partnered to host “Clearing the Trail Day” at Audubon Acres, in East Brainerd. This 130-acre preserve contains more than four miles of walking trails and an abundance of plants and animals.
Neighbors, families, friends and co-workers are encouraged to join University of Phoenix for an impactful morning to clean up trash and remove unsightly ground cover that will leave a lasting legacy for this historic area. Equipment will be provided to volunteer participants, along with refreshments, fruit and games to entertain the kids.
Officials said, "Audubon Acres is currently facing difficult times as vital improvement funds are diminishing – funds that would guarantee the preservation of this historic site. University of Phoenix and the community have an opportunity to make a real difference by volunteering time and efforts to help preserve this special landmark with trash clean-up and removal of unwanted weeds on the trail."
The clean up will take place on Friday, June 26, from 9 a.m.-noon.
Chattanoogans are encouraged to join the Chattanooga campus in this effort.
