What Are The City's Procedures For Street Maintenance? - And Response (2)

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I am curious about some of the procedures for maintaining our city's streets. Is there a reason that many streets have the old surface milled off and then remain in their roughened condition for many months, even in excess of a year in some cases? If you have driven on Rossville Boulevard, north of I-24 or West Boy Scout Road, you have seen examples of this practice.

It seems more reasonable, to me, to mill the surface shortly before the new pavement is to be applied. Could someone in the city or T.D.O.T. explain this situation?

I was driving down East 3rd St, and it is in pretty bad shape. It needs to be repaved from the new UTC athletic facilty to Engel Stadium. Put some money into that street.

I have been asking this same question for nearly a year. The Rossville Blvd. mess is going on 18 months. The ruts in the road are dangerous, especially to someone who rides a motorcycle. Does the city not have the money to complete projects or is the intent to leave these roads in their current condition? Someone is going to be seriously injured or killed on one of these roads.
