Chattanooga FC Loses First Match In A Month

Saturday, June 27, 2009

The Chattanooga Football Club (2-3-1) traveled to Birmingham Saturday night with about 50 dedicated followers to face off against Birmingham Pumas FC. The match was evenly played except for a 10 minute stretch in the first half when Pumas netted 3 goals.

The home side was able to hold Chattanooga to very few clear chances at goal and come away with a 3-0 win virtually ending Chattanooga’s chances for a spot at the top of the NPSL Southern Division standings.

Playing on a small, grass field, Chattanooga FC could never get a feel for the slower pace of the ball and the crowded conditions. Pumas FC used their home field to their advantage and adapted their game to suit the environment.

Chattanooga midfielder, Fynn Glover, played his best match so far, winning the lion’s share of contested air balls in the center of the field. Defender Josh Scott and midfielder Mark Beattie also played impressively, but tonight was not their night.

Fortunately the visitors will not have to wait long for a chance at redemption. Chattanooga FC will welcome this same PumasFC squad to Finley stadium this coming Saturday night for the July 4th season finale.

Chattanooga FC’s next home game is Saturday, July 4th at 7PM. The game will finish around 9PM and will have a shuttle service to the riverfront for fireworks for $1. Tickets to the game cost $5 for adults and $3 for kids.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... A Good School Takes Involvement - And Response

As I have read the articles concerning Normal Park School I can’t keep from thinking when our children started to school in the 1960‘s. The two elementary schools in the city that were considered tops were Barger and Woodmore. We did not live in the zone for either school so we looked for a house to buy that was zoned for Woodmore.   We found ... (click for more)
