Service Academy Applications Due Oct. 30

High school students in Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District can now submit applications to Congressman Zach Wamp for a nomination to U.S. service academies for the 2009-2010 school year. Applications are due October 30, 2009, to his Oak Ridge District Office.

Congressman Wamp can make nominations to each academy, including the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.

; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

To be considered for admission to a service academy, a candidate must meet the eligibility requirements of each academy, qualify medically, pass a physical aptitude test, meet predetermined levels on the SAT or ACT and obtain a nomination source authorized by Congress.

Ammonia Leak At BASF On Amnicola Highway Causes Major Traffic Backups

An Anhydrous Ammonia leak at BASF Corporation on Amnicola Highway is causing major traffic issues this morning. The leak reportedly occurred shortly before 5 a.m. The Chattanooga Fire Department responded with several fire companies, and the haz-mat team. Woman Shot Up To 8 Times In East Chattanooga Murder

Chattanooga Police pfficers responded Monday night to 1907 Daisy St. in East Chattanooga on a report of a woman who had been shot.  When they arrived around 9 p.m., they found a female inside the business who had been shot 4-6 times.
