Celebrate 21 years of free music as the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership continues its 2009 Nightfall Concert Series Friday on the BlueCross Stage in Miller Plaza with JJ Grey & Mofro.

Review for JJ Grey & Mofro:
From gritty funk and juke-joint romps to contemplative country soul and blistering rockers, Grey’s music is in a class by itself, at once contemporary and classic. Grey brings his singular musical vision and hip-shaking, soulful live show to his ever-growing fan base, showing how his songs speak to people all over the world and how far his Southern roots can spread.

Orange Blossoms is JJ Grey & Mofro’s most recent album and it is full of “deep southern soul.

” One fan described the album as “an invitation into Grey’s swampy world, a place where time moves a bit slower, music fills the nights and soul drips off the flowers.”

Opening act Blues Hammer will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by JJ Grey & Mofro at 8 p.m.

Celebrating its 21st season, this free concert series continues to bring an eclectic mix of rock, blues, jazz, reggae, zydeco, funk, bluegrass and folk music to Downtown Chattanooga. This 17-week series is held on the BlueCross Stage in Miller Plaza on Friday evenings from Memorial Day weekend through Sept. 25. Beer, wine, food and non-alcoholic drink concessions are available on site. No outside food or beverages are allowed.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: What 17 Pills Did To Me

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. Never in my life have I ever had any back problems but, in early December, I came down with what is called sciatica and I have been a miserable man ever since. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
