Memorial Announces Board Officers And New Members

Memorial Health Care System announced officers and new members on the Memorial Health Care System Board of Directors.

Charles L. Arant, President of the Tennessee Aquarium, has been appointed as Chair of Memorial’s Board of Directors. Mr. Arant has a long history of community service in Chattanooga. He is currently the Chairman of the RiverCity Board, Past Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Board and serves on the Board of First Tennessee Bank, Creative Discovery Museum, United Way and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Mr. Arant was recently honored as the 2009 Chattanooga Manager of the Year, an award recognizing an executive manager who has made a significant contribution to the Hamilton County area.

Leo M. Brown, CLU, ChFC, AEP, partner in the financial services company of Davis, Smith & Brown, Inc., will serve as Immediate Past Chair. Katherine S. Lindgren, Ph.D., RN, Director of the School of Nursing at University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, returns as Secretary to the board.

New members to the Board are Robert C. Greving, Executive Vice-President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Actuary for Unum Group and Sister Judith Raley, SCN, Provincial, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Western Province, Nazareth, Kentucky. The board represents a wide range of diversity with leaders from business and industry, health care, education, community service, and the faith-based community.

Donowitz, President of Memorial Health Care System Medical Staff and a specialist in internal medicine; Joan H. Frierson, long-time community volunteer; Dorothy L. Grisham, Independent Allstate Agent; Sister Earline Hobbs, SCN, Coordinator of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth Community Ministry in Bardstown, Kentucky; Warren E. Logan, Jr., President of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Inc.; Christopher T. McKee, Vice President, McKee Foods; Beth O’Brien, Senior Vice President and Group Executive Officer, Catholic Health Initiatives; Scott E. Ossewaarde, President of the Roper Corporation; Dr. Wayne T. Scott, specialist in Internal Medicine; Carolyn H. Smeltzer, Ed.D., RN, Partner, Health Industries Advisory Consulting Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP; BettyeLynn Smith, Executive Director of Community Impact of Chattanooga; Carolyn R. Moody's Lowers Erlanger's Bond Rating From A3 To Baa1

Moody's Investors Service has downgraded to Baa1 from A3 the rating assigned to Erlanger Health System's $172 million of outstanding bonds issued by the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority.
