The band Crossfire played at The Tin Cup last weekend, so we ventured out to take a listen and have one of those great French Dip sandwiches they serve there. Crossfire has played in the Chattanooga area for a number of years, with all four members having many years of experience in the local music scene.

Primarily a dance band, Crossfire does everything from Santana to Stevie Ray Vaughn to Waylon Jennings. I particularly liked the country tunes they performed, as Mark Hinard has a great voice for the classics. Dan Lee, Steve Kelley, and Terry Gibson round out this experienced band. And yes, they did Mustang Sally, which we heard for 125,387th time. This band sounded pretty doggone good, and I was glad I had a chance to meet them and hear them play. You can meet them too, just by going right here.

The Chattanooga Idol competition will be held at the UTC Fine Arts Center today, starting at 1 p.m. The winner gets a guaranteed spot before the producers at the American Idol auditions in Orlando, with hotel and travel expenses paid. I was honored to be chosen as a judge again this year, and look forward to seeing the talent Chattanooga has to offer. Come out and see us.

For a big time this weekend, try the Battle Of The Bands contest at Martin Springs Farm in South Pittsburg, TN. With $10,000 in cash and prizes, the music here should be great. For more info, go here.

You have about three weeks to buy, rent, steal or borrow a boat for one of my most favorite events, Aquapalooza 2009. It will be held on July 18, right on Chickamauga Lake. It’s a party on the lake, with Bud Lightning playing from 6 - 9 p.m. on the floating stage right in the middle of Lake Chickamauga. For more info and to register for the free event, try this right here.

Bob’s Pick-o-the week is Chattanooga Idol, Thursday from 1 - 6 p.m. at UTC’s Fine Arts Center.

Bob’s Pick-o-the-weekend is Land Camera and Moonlight Bride, playing on MLK at JJ’s Bohemia Friday Night.

An EF 2 tornado with winds up to 135mph, damaged buildings, uprooted hundreds of trees and left one dead. Lookout Valley continues to rebuild from that day. Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke. And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: What 17 Pills Did To Me

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. Never in my life have I ever had any back problems but, in early December, I came down with what is called sciatica and I have been a miserable man ever since. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
