A Dade County man being booked for a parole violation escaped, stole a truck and crashed through a fence late Wednesday night.

The Dade County Sheriff's office said 31-year-old Jason Dewayne Plummer was arrested and brought to the Dade County Jail. Before the booking process was completed, Plummer was able to escape by climbing through a ceiling vent when an officer stepped out of the room for a few minutes.

A short time later, he was able to make his way to the Dade County Transfer Station where he has worked as a trustee in the past. Plummer then stole one of the Dade County Transfer Station trucks and crashed through a chain link fence.

The Trenton City Police Department and Officers of the Dade County Sheriff's Office then began a high-speed pursuit with Plummer. Plummer was able to hide the vehicle in the woods on the north end of Dade County and he fled on foot. Police said Plummer was traveling as fast as 80 miles per hour along a narrow, winding road.

Plummer is still at large.

Authorities said Plummer has been an inmate at the jail numerous times and was very familiar with its layout.

Anyone with information on the location of Plummer is asked to contact the Dade County Sheriff's Office at 706 657-3233.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
