Thursday, July 02, 2009

A Collegedale man was arrested on Thursday after getting 15 pounds of marijuana in the mail.

Bret Rayburn, 25, was charged with possession of marijuana for resale.

Authorities said the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office narcotics division along with the United States Postal Service and Collegedale Police Department were involved in a controlled delivery at Rayburn's home on Lee Highway. The package contained 15 pounds of marijuana that was shipped from California to the Lee Highway address.

After the delivery of the package, officers entered the residence and found Rayburn in possession of the package of marijuana.

Also found in the residence were several firearms and drug paraphernalia.

A 1984 BMW was also seized as part of the investigation.

Rayburn was transported to the Hamilton County Jail. Other charges will be added at a later date, authorities said.

The case will be reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office for federal prosecution, it was stated.
