Two Chattanooga area teams finished atop the heap on Friday out of 87 teams that began play at the brand new The Summit of Softball on Monday in the ASA nationals.

Mustang '94, which includes some Gordon Lee High players as well as several from Hamilton County schools, defeated the Heritage Generals from near Ringgold 2-0 for the title.

Mustang '94, behind ace pitcher Kelsey "Skeeter" Nunley of Soddy Daisy High, went through the tournament unscathed.

Heritage, which had knocked off Mustang '94 in earlier action this season, could not push across a run against the highly touted Nunley.

Heritage had to win a couple of early games on Friday just to make the championship and would have had to win twice to get the top trophy.

With Allie Hillis on the mound for Heritage, the game was scoreless through the bottom of the fifth when another Soddy Daisy star, Emily Bice, led off with a triple to right. She was safe at home after a ball was hit by Gordon Lee's Lexis Robertson.

Mustang '94 picked up an insurance run in the sixth.

Heritage finished the tournament 10-2. The Generals lost earlier to Indian Dream, then came back to defeat the Dream.

They weren't quite as dominant as they were ... (click for more)

We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor - And Response

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ... Roy Exum: The Sadness Of The Recall

Judge Jeff Hollingsworth, his eagle eyes zeroed on the U.S. Constitution and the laws that have been put into place since it was adopted in 1787, ended the recall of Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield Friday afternoon, but the pall of sadness that the effort cast over the city will last for a lot longer. If “time is money,” the whole deal cost us millions of dollars and even more ... (click for more)
