The suspect in several residential burglaries back in late 2007 and early 2008 was sentenced today to 10 years in a federal prison. Darrell Kevin Busbee had a prior felony conviction as a sex offender when he stole 8 guns from one of the places he burglarized.
Busbee was prosecuted through the Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty earlier this year and on Monday was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Harry S. “Sandy” Mattice to 10 years at a federal facility.
The judge ordered the sentence to run consecutive to a five-year sentence Busbee was given in state court in May 2008 for the burglaries. He was also ordered to make restitution of over $2,000 to one of the victims.
Detectives Joseph Lea and Jimmy Smith of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office were the lead detectives on the case. After completion of the investigation and prosecution in state court, they turned the case over to PSN liaison Det. Carl Maskew to pursue in Federal Court.
