Velma "Val" M. Lewis, 79, of East Ridge, died on Tuesday, August 18, 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Billie Skyles.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Chattanooga to Henry and Ellis Pendland on March 29, 1930. She moved with her family to Florida when she was two years old. She was in the class of 1948 at St. Petersburg High School.

She was a member of the former Kingwood Baptist Church, Brainerd/East Ridge Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles #945, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 95.

Velma was also retired from Provident Insurance Franchise Department.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Bobby L. Lewis; daughter, Sharon (Kenny) Kennedy; grandchildren, Kimmie and Jeffrey; brothers, Mickey (Joyce) Pendland and Danny (Liz) Pendland; nieces, Lonnie Skyles and Leslie (Scott) Shepherd; and nephews, Randy, Steve, and Quinton (Terra) Skyles, Danny Roark, and Sam Lewis.

Memorial donations may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20, and 10-11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Chaplain Lester Norton officiating.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.

Waldo Oran Kinser, 58, of Chatsworth, Ga., died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his residence. Waldo was born May 12, 1953 in Ellijay, Ga., a son of the late Wilbur Oran and Texxie Dotson Kinser; and was also preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Kinser; and sister, Debbie Kinser.
