SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The scoreboard watching was in full effect for the Tennessee Smokies and the Chattanooga Lookouts in Wednesday night's game.
In the end, thanks to Jim Adduci's game-winning single the Smokies came back from a 4-1 deficit to beat the Lookouts, 5-4, at Smokies Park.
With the win, and the Huntsville Stars' come-from-behind 7-6 win over West Tenn, both Tennessee and West Tenn are now tied for first at 28-24 in the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, the Lookouts, who have lost their last seven games, are sitting in the third place, two-games behind the leaders.
Down 4-3 heading into the ninth, the Smokies chipped away at Chattanooga's lead.
Robinson Chirinos led off the frame with a walk, advancing to second and then third on a sacrifice and pass ball. Welington Castillo would be intentionally walked to put runners on first and third with no out. Jonathan Mota's double to left scored Chirinos to tie the game and put Castillo on third. Adduci would follow with a single to center off Chattanooga's Matt Sartor (4-5) for the game-winner.
The Lookouts put up three runs in the fourth to go up 3-1
Another Chattanooga run in the fifth would extend the Lookouts' lead to 4-1. The Smokies scored two runs in the sixth to make it a 4-3 game.
Game 4 between the Lookouts and Smokies is Thursday night at Smokies Park.
Chris Withrow (1-2, 4.73) will pitch for Chattanooga against Hung-Wen Chen (7-9, 4.68) for Tennessee.
