  • Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago, the world's second ranked competitive eater, holds the championship trophy after winning the first of several Krystal Square-Off qualfiers Saturday afternoon at Ross' Landing. The 24-year-old downed 42 Krystals and five Black Angus burgers (each of which counted for five Krystals) for a total of 67 to easily outdistance Bill Myers (34 Krystals) and Rick Petralia (31) in the 10 man field. Bertoletti will return to Chattanooga on Sept. 27 for the sixth annual Square-Off international championship. This was the first qualifier featuring the rule changes for 2009 the most notable of which bans dunking the burgers in liquid before eating.

Bertoletti, who has eaten 173 jalapenos in 15 minutes and 21 pounds of grits in 10 minutes, will return to Chattanooga on Sept. 27th for the finals which will be nationally televised.

  • Bill Myers of Brenigsville, Pa., the 30th ranked competitive eater in the world, finished second to Patrick Bertoletti at Saturday's Krystal Square-Off qualifier at Ross' Landing. The 41-year-old Myers ate a total of 34 Krystals but Bertoletti, who is the number two competitive eater in the world downed nearly twice as many with 67.

Petralia, the owner of Operational Excellence Restaraunt Consultants, is the world's 42nd ranked competitve eater. Patrick Bertoletti, the number two competitive eater internationally, won the event followed by Bill Myers. Bertoletti, who ate 67 Krystals in eight minutes, will return to Chattanooga for the championship finals on Sept. 27th where the top qualifiers will compete for a $50,000 prize that is the largest in competitive eating history.

Signs Vandalized At Cummings Cove As Battle With OHV Owners Continues

Two large advertising signs at the Cummings Cove development in Lookout Valley were vandalized Friday. One sign was spray painted with an expletive and another had the word "Aetna" in large letters.  There has been a long-running dispute between owners of Cummings Cove and those who enjoy going up the old Aetna Mountain Road to ride off-highway vehicles.
