St. Elmo United Methodist Is Not Gone

Monday, August 24, 2009

Yesterday evening our church, St. Elmo United Methodist Church went up in flames. Within 30 minutes many of the 150 members of the church stood on the sidewalk and watched as our spiritual home went away.

Shortly there after we retreated to a neighboring facility, where as a family, we held each others hearts as we clasped hands and sang Amazing Grace. We realized that despite the building being destroyed we were “having church.”

We will stand together and shoulder to shoulder we will rebuild, making us even stronger and more able to help others. St. Elmo is an open door church serving the whole community, including the under privileged.

This morning, as we gazed at the remains, several folks whom have enjoyed our free community dinners, came by to offer their prayers. We assured them, the church will continue our mission of service.

As we move forward, our congregation appreciates the prayers of the community. Many of you have offered to be of assistance. We know we will need your help, we just don’t know what that is at this point. Thank you for reaching out to us and for your continued prayers.

A huge thank you to Chattanooga Fire Department who courageously fought the fire, we were and are prayerful that they are all safe.

Unrestricted Donations Work To Level The Playing Field

Occupy Chattanooga's petition to limit campaign contributions from individuals only, and to limit the amount to $100, actually works to the advantage of the evil rich candidate (who made his money in the evil free market capitalist system; i.e. off the backs of the poor working man) since he is allowed to dip into his vast personal wealth.  This puts the honest, ... A Moderate View Of The Left And Right

Recently, I wrote an opinion about the need for compassion and the fear of us losing sight of it. I followed that opinion with one that cautioned us to be careful about how we use the word entitlement. Both of these entreaties were written to remind us (especially Congress),… never capitulate to unjust demands. When slicing fat from the budget, don't use a partisan's axe. This ... (click for more)

Prior to the move, Dr. King was making ... (click for more)

County Schools Ask That PILOT Funds Be Released By County

Hamilton County School officials are asking the County Commission to stop holding payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) funds, but let the money flow straight to the schools as it did until about a year ago. Commissioner Chester Bankston is sponsoring a resolution to that effect that will be voted on next Wednesday. The funds come from businesses like Volkswagen that have gotten ... (click for more)

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – It was already obvious that Ooltewah’s Owls and Bradley Central’s state-ranked Bearettes, would be the No. 1 seeds for next week’s District 5-AAA high school basketball tournament at Bradley Central High School.   Everything else was cleared up when the district’s boys and girls coaches met Wednesday morning at the Mountain View Inn to iron out the ...
