Jacksonsville Takes Second Straight From First Place Lookouts

Cristhian Martinez pitched seven shutout innings to lead the Jacksonville Suns to a 4-0 victory over the Lookouts in Sunday afternoon action at AT&T Field.

West Tennessee lost, 6-4, to Carolina and Tennessee fell to Birmingham, 3-2, Sunday enabling the Lookouts to hold their two-game lead in the Southern League's North Division.

Five different Lookouts had a hit each. Chattanooga stranded five runners.

Bryan Peterson led off the first for the Suns with a double and advanced to third on a subsequent Ryan Klosterman single. A fielder's choice by Logan Morrison allowed Peterson to score from third.

Jacksonville augmented their lead in the fourth with three runs, highlighted by a Peterson two-run homer.

Martinez (9-3) took care of business on the mound for the Suns, yielding just six hits and one walk, while striking out three.

Levale Speigner came out of the bullpen for Jacksonville to pitch the remaining two innings, while preserving the shutout in the process.

James Adkins dropped to 5-8 on the season for the Lookouts. In four innings of work, he surrendered four runs on five hits and four walks. He struck out eight in the losing effort.

Kendy Batista threw four innings of scoreless ball in relief of Adkins. He gave up three hits, a walk, and fanned five. Javy Guerra pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.

The three Lookouts hurlers struck out 14 Jacksonville batters.

The Chattanooga Lookouts and Jacksonville Suns will wrap-up their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., Monday.

Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
