A master plan for Heritage Park in East Brainerd includes the addition of a dog park and theater areas.

Chris Camp of Lose & Associates presented the plan for the development of the park on Jenkins Road near East Brainerd Road.

The plan was the result of several meetings previously with members of the community to obtain ideas.

The additions to the park are to take place in phases. Phase 1 will include a dog park, additions to the site parking, and the addition of two theater areas and several picnic tables along the stream.

Future phases will add a third theater area near the lake and modify the play area with play equipment for older children.

Officials said the changes will better open the park to small to medium music events and theater plays.

Mayor Ron Littlefield and Council Chairman Jack Benson, who were present for the meeting, agreed that these changes will greatly facilitate community events in the park.

The program will be supervised by Larry Zehnder, city parks and recreation director.
