From Lookout Mountain To The Valley Below: Our National Park Premieres On WTCI

Thursday, September 17, 2009

WTCI-TV (PBS) will air From Lookout Mountain to the Valley Below: Our National Park, a WTCI-produced documentary, on Sunday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m. This local documentary features Civil War stories from the fields of battle of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, to present day preservation efforts as seen through the eyes of those whose lives have been inspired by the park’s rich history.

“This project will complement the debut of Ken Burns’ latest project, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea as we continue our role as the community’s storyteller” said Paul Grove, WTCI president and CEO. “We believe it’s important that WTCI tell the stories that connect our local history with the current generation.”

Ken Burns’ latest documentary, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, a six-part, 12-hour series, will also begin airing on Sunday, Sept. 27, beginning at 4 p.m., and continuing through Oct. 3.

“Our film celebrates the beauty of these parks and the vision and foresight of the men and women who made sure that this land would be preserved,” said Mr. Burns.

As part of a National Public Lands celebration, the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park Visitors’ Center in Fort Oglethorpe, will be screening From Lookout Mountain on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Visitors can enjoy a unique opportunity to view the documentary on the very grounds where it was filmed. The documentary will be shown between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; screenings start at the bottom of every hour.

WTCI gives special thanks to Kay Parish, executive director, Friends of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, and to Shelley Andrews, executive director, Friends of Moccasin Bend National Park for their partnership and contributions to this project.

Production of the documentary is sponsored by Barnett & Company, Eastern National, Independent Healthcare Properties and the National Parks Conservation Association.
