A friend who lives in Ringgold recommended this restaurant to us. She said, “if you’re in that area looking for home cooking, Richard’s at 906 LaFayette Street is the place to go.” They are in the little center across the side street from Shop Rite and behind the courthouse. If you use Mapquest, the last mileage count is not correct. It gave us .01 mile after turning off the main road – it was closer to a mile.
If you don’t work in Ringgold during the day, then it’s not going to be easy to try that country-cooking menu, other than breakfast on Saturday, since they aren’t open for dinner.
They have a good-sized list of breakfast selections including country ham, tenderloin, pancakes (even chocolate chip), oatmeal, and many other items.
I decided to risk it and order two soft scrambled eggs with sausage ($5.45). It comes with a choice of biscuits and gravy or toast and grits. I decided to go with the gravy, just in case the eggs were hard as usual. Wayne ordered the Western Omelet (ham, cheese, onions, peppers and tomatoes) for $5.25, plus a side of bacon (3 strips, $1.60).
Everything was very good and the service was quick. The only negative was – you guessed it – my eggs. Over done. But, that’s the way it goes.
Wayne was very pleased with his omelet. He said finally, someone who really knows how to prepare one! This was nicely prepared, cooked just until done, without being brown on the outside like he is usually served. The bacon was crisp without being burnt and over-done. I definitely see us going back to Richard’s.
For lunch Richard’s offers sandwiches such as burgers ($3.45), Chicken ($3.60) or grilled cheese ($2.10); along with salads priced from $2.35 for a tossed garden salad to $5.60 for several, including a homemade tuna or chicken salad with a choice of two vegetables.
Daily lunch specials sound tempting, as well as reasonably priced. Each day there is a different special: Monday is country style steak or fried chicken; Tuesday – grilled chicken and rice, Salisbury steak or pork loin; Wednesday - chicken & dressing or pot roast; Thursday – meat loaf or Italian baked chicken and Friday chicken casserole or B-B-Q pork. Each day there is a list of twelve vegetables to choose from – different each day, and just a few are squash casserole, hash brown casserole, deviled eggs, macaroni and cheese, broccoli casserole and pinto beans. Meat with two veggies is $5.50. Of course you can order more or less – or maybe just a vegetable plate.
They do have a kid’s menu as well as special desserts of the day. Richard’s also does casseroles to go and tiered cakes for special occasions. We saw a beautiful cake leaving while we were there – obviously a baby shower! Only thing that had me wondering was why the cake wasn’t in a box (or something). It was simply sitting on a piece of (I assume) cardboard with no covering. My luck, I would go out the door and a bird would fly into it!
Hours for Richard’s are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. and on Saturday from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday is breakfast only. Sunday they are closed.
