Mary Etta Hixson, 95, of Hixson, died on Thursday, September 24, 2009.

Mary Etta was born in Vonore, Tn., and moved to Big Ridge in the early 30’s. She was a former employee with Hixson Suburban Hospital.

Mary Etta was the eldest of the old Big Ridge Community and the oldest living member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She loved gospel music and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Hixson, her parents and four siblings.

Mary Etta is survived by two sons, Edwin Hixson and friend Shelia Neeley, Bob (Carolyn) Hixson, and daughter, Joyce Hixson Jacks; four grandchildren, Mike (Kim) Hixson, Tim Hixson, Coy Hixson and Ashley Jacks; two great-granddaughters, Brittney and Amber Hixson; sister, Gladys Folkner; several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 25, from 4-8 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel.

Services for Mary will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the North Chapel with Rev. Henry Groseclose officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary Etta’s name to Fairview United Methodist Church, 3901 Hamill Road, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.

Waldo Oran Kinser, 58, of Chatsworth, Ga., died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at his residence. Ammonia Leak At BASF On Amnicola Highway Causes Major Traffic Backups
