Thursday, September 24, 2009 - by Brian Baker

Fall is in the air, and with it comes the opportunity to enjoy lots of family-friendly activities right up the road in Athens, Tn.

“Mayfield Dairy Farms is proud to be a part of the annual corn maze again this year,” said Scottie Mayfield, president of Mayfield Dairy Farms. “Michael Mayfield is really going all out to make sure that visitors of all ages have a great time. We are very excited because so many families, church groups and school groups visit the farm and the Mayfield Dairy plant on the same trip.”

Michael Mayfield opens up his farm to visitors and provides a great place to enjoy a family outing, school trip, birthday party, church outing and company picnic, from Sept. 14 to Nov. 7.

Seven acres of fun at Mayfield’s pumpkin-shaped corn maze -
Easy for some, an adventure for others, the seven-acre pumpkin-shaped corn maze is a great way to have some good old fashion family fun. Visitors to the maze can also enjoy strolling through a pumpkin patch, hayrides, an animal barn, a corn cannon, hillbilly pig races, concessions and loads of Mayfield treats!

Festivities the whole family will enjoy at Mayfield Farm and Nursery

The largest tomato fight in North America is this weekend -
Mayfield Farm and Nursery will host a tomato fight between the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and The University of Tennessee Knoxville on Sept. 27.

Students, alumni and fans will bring five dollars and five food items to the fight at 2 p.m., with proceeds from the fight going to Chattanooga and Knoxville area food banks.

“Yes, we realize throwing tomatoes seems like a contradiction to a food bank fundraiser, but these won’t be commercially marketable by the time we throw ‘em,” said Michael Mayfield, owner of Mayfield Farm and Nursery. “Our hope is that students and fans alike will meet in the middle (Athens) and initiate something that will bring these rivals together and help out the community.”

Also, see how your favorite Mayfield products are made -
Kids and adults alike will enjoy seeing how their favorite Mayfield products are made with a fun and educational behind-the-scenes tour at the Mayfield Visitor Center. Find out how it all began for Mayfield and get to see how Mayfield’s delicious milk makes it from the dairy to the fridge.

Better yet, get the inside scoop on how delicious Mayfield Ice Creamier is made. After the tour, browse the gift shop for great Mayfield-branded keepsakes, and, of course, be sure to try a scoop of delicious Mayfield Ice Cream at the old-fashioned Ice Cream Parlor.

Founded in 1910, Mayfield Dairy Farms offers a full line of milk, cultured and ice cream products. Based in Athens, the dairy serves nine Southeastern states. Tours of the dairy’s plants in Athens, and Braselton, Ga., offer an inside look into the history, production and great flavor of Mayfield products.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
