Signal Mountain Eagles Football Win Big over East Hamilton

After the Varsity team’s 49-0 defeat of East Hamilton on Friday night, the Junior Varsity team followed with another impressive victory. Led by freshman quarterback Reese Phillips, the Eagles soared to a 36-7 win.

In the first quarter, Reese Phillips scored on a ten yard keeper into the end zone. Phillips had several carries for a large amount of yardage along with many precise passes to his receivers. David Anderson proved himself to be the defensive player of the game with tight coverage and many hard hits.

In the second quarter of play, Adam Pruett showed his defensive dominance by pressuring the quarterback to throw the ball away in the end zone, resulting in a safety that put the Eagles up 9-0. Adam also had a few other key tackles in the backfield that helped shut down the Hurricane offense. Later that quarter, sophomore running back Caden Thomas sprinted for a touchdown on one of his many highlight runs to bring the Eagles’ lead up to 16-0. At halftime, Signal Mountain kept the shutout going.

With the only score of the third quarter, the tenacious fullback Taylor Harvey powered his way into the end zone, propelling the Eagles to 22-0. The Hurricanes scored their only touchdown from the three yard line on a quarterback keeper by Scott Paone. Trent Knox spun his way through the line and down the field for 47 yards with help from his offensive line. Knox was also a standout defensively with several tackles. With a few minutes left in the game, freshman Ben Philyaw found his way around the corner and past all of the East Hamilton defenders for a touchdown that secured the 36-7 victory.

Other defensive standouts for the Junior Varsity team were Logan Stephens, who clogged up the line, Skyler Baker, who brought down several Hurricane players, and Dane Dewet, who not only kicked the whole game, but also made a key tackle on a kickoff. Some offensive players that benefited the victory were Sam Hausler, a wide out with many great catches and the entire offensive line, led by John Evans at center.

Thoughts On The Mathews Sentencing

It is not by coincidence I haven’t submitted an opinion piece in some time to the Chattanoogan.  The topics I cover are generally vitriolic in regards to local political decisions and their makers regarding public safety and I do not wish to associate my name with more noble subjects such as that of the heroic death and cowardly murder of Chattanooga Police Sergeant Tim Chapin, ... A Good School Takes Involvement - And Response

As I have read the articles concerning Normal Park School I can’t keep from thinking when our children started to school in the 1960‘s. The two elementary schools in the city that were considered tops were Barger and Woodmore. We did not live in the zone for either school so we looked for a house to buy that was zoned for Woodmore.   We found ... (click for more)
